Renewing ISP and datacenter IPs
Updated 2 min read
Short version: an ISP or datacenter IP is yours until its Expires date. To keep it, buy more time before then, or switch on Auto-buy and let it renew itself from your balance. Miss the date and the IP goes back into stock.
Buy more time by hand
- Open Proxies, ISP or Datacenter, and click the proxy.
- Click Buy more time. (From the list, it's Extend in the row's menu.)
- Pick how much time, then Buy this time.
It's charged once from your balance, and the time is added to the current expiry date, so renewing early doesn't waste any days.
Let it renew itself: Auto-buy
On the proxy's page, switch on Auto-buy. It buys one more month before the proxy expires, paid from your balance.
Keep enough balance for it. If the balance is short, we email you. To make sure it never runs dry, turn on automatic deposits under Billing, Payment methods: see Adding funds to your balance.
With Auto-buy off, we email you a reminder a few days before the expiry date, and again shortly before it.
If it expires
- There's no grace period. When the term ends, the proxy stops and the IP goes back into stock.
- On proxies that offer it, you can Reactivate it on the same IP for a short while afterwards (up to 10 days), if nobody else has taken it. Reactivating buys a new term that starts that day; the days it spent lapsed aren't credited. There's a small reactivation charge, shown before you confirm.
- After that, or if the IP has been taken, order a new one.
If an IP matters to you, don't cut it close: switch on Auto-buy or renew a few days early.
Ending early
There's no cancel button for a running IP. If you don't want it any more, leave Auto-buy off and let it run out. Only an order that hasn't been paid yet can be cancelled, from its page under Orders.
If we end a rental before its term is up for reasons of our own, the unused part is refunded pro rata: to your account balance, which is quick, or to your original payment method, which takes longer. See Refunds: getting unused money back.
