How much traffic have I used?

Updated 2 min read

Coming soon: residential isn't on sale yet. The residential parts below apply once it is; ISP and datacenter work today.

Short version: open the proxy in your dashboard and look at the Capacity card. Bandwidth used is what the meter has counted. Your own tools will read a bit lower, and a small gap is normal.

Where to look

  1. Open Proxies, pick the line, and click your proxy. On the residential and datacenter lists, the Bandwidth column gives you a quick view across all of them.
  2. On the Capacity card, Bandwidth used shows what's gone. No figure there? Email support@proxymonkey.io with the proxy ID and ask for the reading.
  3. Running low? On residential, click Buy bandwidth on the Status card. Past the allowance on a shared ISP or datacenter IP? Buy bandwidth is on the Capacity card.

Dedicated and premium ISP or datacenter IPs have no traffic cap.

On residential, requests stop when the traffic is spent. Top up before a big run.

Why your count is lower than ours

The meter counts traffic in both directions, everything that crosses the proxy for you. Most scraping tools only count what they see:

  • Headers, TLS handshakes and connection setup are real bytes on the wire that your tool never counts.
  • Compression. The wire carries the small version; your tool counts the unpacked body.
  • Retries and redirects still move bytes.
  • A new connection per request costs more than reusing one.

Use less

  • Ask for compressed responses (Accept-Encoding: gzip) and fetch only what you need.
  • In a headless browser, block images, fonts and video.
  • Reuse connections where rotation doesn't matter.
  • Stop retrying a request that keeps failing the same way.

Numbers look wrong?

Usage climbing while every client is stopped, or not moving while they run? Email support@proxymonkey.io with the proxy ID, when you looked and what you saw. No passwords, please.

Think we've overcounted? Measure it and send it in: Think the meter overcharged you?. If we're wrong, we credit the difference.
