Connecting to residential
Updated 2 min read
Coming soon. Residential isn't on sale yet, so you can't order it today. This page shows how it works, so you're ready when it lands. Need a proxy now? ISP and datacenter are on sale: see Residential, ISP or datacenter: which one do I need?.
Short version: residential has one gateway for the whole pool. Point your tool at the gateway and port from your dashboard with your username and password, and the pool picks an exit IP for each connection.
Find your details
- Open Proxies, then Residential, and click your proxy.
- The Connection card shows the Gateway, the port it speaks on, and your Username and Password, each with a copy button.
- Need it as one line, in the layout your tool expects? Use Open generator, below.
Dial the gateway, never the exit IP the page shows you. The exit changes between sessions.
"No gateway to show for this proxy"? Your credentials are still current. Email support@proxymonkey.io and we'll give you the gateway address to dial.
Test it
curl -sS --proxy "http://HOST:PORT" --proxy-user 'USERNAME:PASSWORD' https://api.ipify.org; echo
curl -sS --proxy "http://HOST:PORT" --proxy-user 'USERNAME:PASSWORD' https://api.ipify.org; echo
Two separate commands are two connections, so you should usually see two different IPs.
Need a list of proxy strings?
Lots of scrapers and browser tools want a list, one proxy per line. On your proxy's page, click Open generator, set the Quantity and the format, then Copy list or Download list. Every line is the same gateway and credentials: each one is a rotating session, so each connection gets its own IP.
Protocol
The Connection card says which protocol and port the proxy speaks. If your tool needs a different one and the proxy offers it, Change protocol lists what's available. Anything using the old protocol stops connecting straight away. More in HTTP or SOCKS5?.
Keep an eye on traffic
The Capacity card shows Bandwidth used. Requests stop when the traffic is spent, so add more with Buy bandwidth on the Status card before a big run. See How much traffic have I used?.
