Residential proxies: what you get

Updated 2 min read

Coming soon. Residential isn't on sale yet, so you can't order it today. This page shows how it works, so you're ready when it lands. Need a proxy now? ISP and datacenter are on sale: see Residential, ISP or datacenter: which one do I need?.

Short version: residential gives you real home IPs from one big pool, usually a new one on every new connection. You buy traffic by the GB from your balance, with no subscription and nothing to cancel.

Good for

  • Scraping sites that block datacenter ranges
  • Sneaker and ticket bots
  • Spreading requests over lots of addresses in lots of countries
  • Anything that broke on cheaper proxies

How it behaves

  • Rotation: usually a different IP on every new connection. Keep a connection open and it usually keeps its IP.
  • Same IP for a login or checkout? Residential isn't built for that. An ISP IP keeps one address for its whole term. See Rotating IPs, and keeping one IP for a login or checkout.
  • No country setting. Residential is one pool spread across many countries, and each request exits wherever the next IP happens to be. You can't pin it to one country at any price. Need a named country? ISP and datacenter let you pick one at checkout. The countries in the pool are listed on our locations page.

Where the IPs come from

A paid, opt-in SDK partner. Real people install an app, are told in plain language that their spare bandwidth gets used, are paid for it, and can switch it off any time.

Because these are real home connections, an IP can drop off when its owner's device goes offline. Build your client to retry.

What you pay for

  • Per GB. You buy a number of GB from your balance, and requests stop when they're spent. Top the proxy up with more GB whenever you like.
  • Traffic in both directions counts: what you send and what comes back.
  • The order size sets the rate for the whole order. Cross a rung and every GB in the order gets the lower rate, not only the ones above the line.
  • No subscription. You pay per order.

Not the right fit if

  • the job has to come from one named country: buy ISP or datacenter in that country;
  • you're bulk-crawling a site that lets datacenter IPs in: a dedicated datacenter IP has no traffic meter.
