Site or map shows the wrong country for your proxy?
Why a site or map shows another country than your proxy's, and how to check the exit with the free proxy checker.
Updated 2 min read
Short version: if a site or map shows a different country than your proxy's, the proxy is usually fine and something else is guessing the location. Here's how to find out what.
Check the exit first
- Turn your proxy on in the browser you're testing.
- Open the proxy checker and press the button.
- Compare the exit IP and its country with the IP on the proxy's page in your dashboard. Trust the country. City is a coin toss between databases.
- Look at the WebRTC line. A second public address means a page can see past the proxy.
Why sites disagree
- Database lag. Location databases update on their own schedule, so an IP that changed hands recently can still show its old country.
- Maps and weather pages often ask your browser or device for its location and skip the IP. Clear that site's location permission and reload.
- A normal window carries extensions, cookies and saved permissions. Try a private window with extensions off.
- Anti-detect browser profiles have their own time zone, language and geolocation. If they don't match the exit, sites see two places. Set them to match.
- DNS or WebRTC leaks show an address or resolver outside the proxy. Send DNS through the proxy and set WebRTC to follow it or turn it off.
Depending on the product you ordered, the location you picked may be a country only.
